Welcome to Mount Scopus!

I should have known that when I was greeted by this barrier at my gate in the Newark airport that I was about to enter a whole new world. However, I don't think I could have imagined just how immensely different this world would be.

I drove through Israel for 45 minutes on my way to campus feeling concerned. To me it felt like I had walked out of the airport into a world filled with a sepia color filter. The scrub land and rocky terrain paired with a distinctive new archatecture style through me for a loop. All the buildings looked the same to me rushing past: grey-white cement and square. Was this really the country that held all the culture wonders that up until then I had only read about?

Yes, it is. And it's actually pretty awesome. It took a little bit to get used to on the way, but every minute since I've arrived in Jerusalem's been amazing. Not only am I literally surrounded by and walking on history, but it's gorgeous. Despite the overcast weather I was still blown away by the views of the city from campus.

This is the Dome of the Rock. One of the most significant holy locations ever. Mind you, this is also the view of the Dome of the Rock from my campus. Which is pretty incredible.

A panaramic view off of a balcony on campus. The Dome of the Rock is amongst all the buildings in the photo.

The view from the other side of campus. Beautiful rolling desert and apparently on nice days you can see the Dead Sea.

Let's just say I don't think I'm anywhere close to Meadville anymore. And without a doubt, every bit of this semester is going to be an adventure.
